Explorer Troop (11-14)

About the Program

The Explorer program is based on Scouting for Boys by Robert Baden-Powell. New members are invested, becoming Tenderfoots, and then progress from Second Class to First Class, before finally earning the Explorer Cord. The Explorer motto is "Stand ready".

The Troop is made up of small groups called Patrols, each with up to 6-8 Explorers. Each Patrol is lead by a Patrol Leader who is an experienced member of the Troop. At camps, the members of the Patrol work together to set up their own campsite, plan their menus, and prepare their meals. The Patrol Leader helps with planning, and with the training of less experienced Explorers in their Patrol. Everybody has opportunities to learn leadership and teamwork skills, and how to take more responsibility for themselves.
