Senior Explorer Troop (15-17)

About the Program

The Senior Explorer program is an older variant of the Explorer program. The goal of the Senior Explorer program is to help prepare the youth for the beginnings of adulthood, and the transition that comes with that. New members are invested, becoming Tenderfoots, and then progress to First Class before earning the Bushman's Thong and the St George Award. The Senior Explorer motto is "Look wide".

The Troop is structured similarly to the Explorer Troop; it is made up of small groups called Patrols, each with up to 6-8 Senior Explorers. Each Patrol is lead by a Patrol Leader who is an experienced member of the Troop. At camps, the members of the Patrol work together to set up their own campsite, plan their menus, and prepare their meals. The Patrol Leader helps with planning, and with the training of less experienced Senior Explorers in their Patrol. Everybody has opportunities to learn leadership and teamwork skills, and how to take more responsibility for themselves.
